Captain A.F.G. Warrington (A.F.G. Warrington, R.N.R.): A Royal Naval Reserve captain and merchant mariner active on the Burma run with the British India Steam Navigation Company, who also held fellowships in microscopy and geography (F.R.G.S.).
SS Nirpura was a 5,961-ton British India Steam Navigation Company steamship, built in 1921 by W. Gray & Co. of West Hartlepool. It was a cargo/passenger vessel and operated on the company’s Asian and Indian Ocean services.
During WWII, Nirpura was involved in transporting animals and military personnel. On 3 March 1943, she was torpedoed by the German submarine U-160 off the South African coast while travelling from Durban toward Karachi.
As is condition and notations inside but a truely unique piece of history.
